Hardscape Services
A good hardscape starts with knowing what you want your yard to do. Maybe it is a patio that finally fits the whole family, a driveway that stops cracking every winter, or a fire pit for cool Tennessee evenings. Eastman Hardscape Construction has built projects like these for homeowners in Mt. Juliet and across the greater Nashville area since 1978. Browse the services below to see how each one works, which materials we use, and where the details are that make or break a project.

Fire Pits & Fireplaces
Fire has always pulled people into the same circle, and a well-built fire feature turns a backyard into the place everyone ends up. At Eastman Hardscape Construction, we build both options homeowners weigh most: a fire pit that sits low and social, or an outdoor fireplace that stands as the centerpiece of a patio. Some projects use Belgard or Unilock products, and others call for custom natural stone shaped to match the house. Wood or gas, a crisp fall night or a quiet winter morning with coffee, the right choice depends on your space, your budget, and how you like to gather. Compare the two below and see which one fits.
Fire Pits
A fire pit asks less of your yard than a fireplace and gives back more conversation. We build custom wood-burning and gas pits in round, square, or freeform shapes, using brick, concrete, or natural stone. Gas starts with a click and skips the firewood, while wood-burning pits get a stainless steel spark screen to keep embers off your cushions. Prefer a DIY build? We supply kits and guidance.
Outdoor Fireplaces
An outdoor fireplace gives a patio something a fire pit cannot: height, a break from the breeze, and a backdrop for the whole space. We build manufactured stone fireplaces for speed and custom ones when you want a specific height, width, and stone blend. Custom costs more, and gas models need permits and inspections, so we plan for those early. See how each looks beside your patio.
Patios
Your patio can be much more than a flat place to set a table. Done well, it works like an extra room: shaded where you need it, sized for the number of chairs you actually own, and connected to the grill, the fire, and the back door without awkward steps. We design and build patios for every kind of lot, from a tight courtyard to a full backyard retreat, and no two ever turn out alike. Choose tumbled pavers for a weathered look or crisp modern lines, then add seating walls, lighting, or a fire feature. Explore the three directions below to see how each one plays out on a real property.
Paver Patios
Pavers earn their reputation in the part nobody sees. A paver patio from Eastman starts with a compacted gravel base, graded with a laser transit so water runs off instead of pooling, followed by a screeded sand bed, cut edges, restrained borders, and sand-swept joints. The result resists fading, salt, and slipping, and carries a manufacturer’s lifetime guarantee. Learn how that process shapes a patio that stays level for years.
Brick Patios
Brick patios age the way good leather does: they only look better with use. We install new or reclaimed brick in nearly any shape, often pairing it with concrete pavers as a border or woven “rug” that gives the patio a focal point. Brick can carry through to columns, seat walls, and fire pits too. We plan drainage, steps, and elevation first. See how brick fits your home.
Patio, Firepit & Wall Project
This Mt. Juliet backyard started uneven, soggy, and unusable for the kids. Our crew tied the downspouts into buried drain pipe, built a retaining wall and seating wall, and laid a Unilock paver patio with a basalt inlay and a granite fire pit. Wet weather turned the site to mud, and the job still finished on time. Follow the build from first site visit to final cleanup.
Pools
A pool is only as good as the ground around it. Wet feet, summer sun, and constant foot traffic punish a deck, which is why plain concrete surrounds so often crack, stain, or turn slick within a few seasons. We rebuild that surround with interlocking pavers and finish the pool edge with coping in matching paver or natural stone. Pavers grip when wet, certain styles stay cool underfoot, and a damaged piece can be replaced on its own. Whether you are building new or tired of a crumbling slab, the two pages below show how we approach the deck itself and a full poolside project from start to finish, with the materials we used.
Pool Decks
Skip the jackhammer. If your pool deck is cracked or dated, we can overlay it with interlocking pavers, a faster, more affordable refresh than a full tear-out. Choose smooth or textured anti-slip pavers, then finish the edge with bullnose paver coping, limestone, or Crab Orchard stone. Upkeep stays simple: regular pressure washing and sealing about every two years. See which style matches your pool.
Pool Deck and Patio Project
The homeowner’s white concrete deck had cracked everywhere, so she had it jackhammered out and started fresh. We designed a Bristol Valley paver deck in Copper Ridge, then added Olde Quarry sandstone seating walls, a grill island with a bar backsplash, a fire pit with its own seat wall, and low-voltage LED lighting. The walls also hold back the hillside. See how the plan grew during construction.
Outdoor Living
Outdoor living is what happens when the backyard starts doing the work of another room. Cooking, shade, and light decide whether you actually use it, and each one has its own answer. An outdoor kitchen puts the grill where the conversation is. A patio cover, pavilion, pergola, or arbor handles shade in four very different ways, from a solid roof to a leafy entrance along a garden path. Lighting then stretches the evening and makes steps safer. We plan these features together so they work as one space, not a pile of add-ons. Start with the one that fills your yard’s biggest gap, and build outward from there as your budget allows.
Outdoor Kitchens
A good outdoor kitchen keeps the cook in the conversation. We build custom islands and counters around R.H. Peterson American Outdoor Grill and Fire Magic lines, top them with Crab Orchard stone, and can build in a Big Green Egg. Cabinets, sinks, and appliances are chosen for how you entertain, and the plan accounts for elevation, access, and existing hardscape. See where to start.
Patio Covers
Patio covers solve the sun and rain problem in one move. We build attached covers that flow from your back door and freestanding ones that sit apart, in lattice for filtered light or solid roofing for full protection, often framed in aluminum for low upkeep. Roof pitch, window placement, and ceiling style shape how a cover performs, so we plan those first. See which fits your home.
Pavilions
Pavilions are the big, solid-roofed option for yards that need serious shelter. A freestanding roof on columns gives you shade, rain cover, and even protection from light snow, so the dinner or the Saturday cookout does not end when the weather turns. We build them over outdoor kitchens, pool areas, and decks at homes, and for restaurant patios and event spaces. Explore what a pavilion could do for your property.
Pergolas
A pergola gives you shade you can design: lattice for dappled light, adjustable louvers you angle through the day, or a clean open frame. We build them in cedar, aluminum, vinyl, or composite, depending on how much upkeep you want, and add lighting, privacy screens, or climbing plants. Each starts with a look at your yard’s light and layout. Compare materials before you choose.
Arbors
Arbors do the opposite of a roof: they invite you in. Over a gate or walkway, an arbor frames the view and gives the yard a sense of arrival. We build them in cedar, redwood, steel, vinyl, or composite, with curved tops, lattice, built-in benches, or supports for climbing vines. Each is sized to the fences, plants, and furniture around it. See how one could anchor your landscape.
Outdoor Lighting
Outdoor lighting decides whether your yard works after dark. We install low-voltage LED lighting for patios, pool decks, kitchens, walkways, driveways, and garden paths, plus deck rail, step, and recessed fixtures. Placement does the real work: lights that mark steps, soften seating, and show off trees beat one bright floodlight. We can also light ponds and waterfalls with underwater fixtures. Explore lighting ideas.
Pavers
Interlocking pavers are the material behind most of what we build, and the right product changes how a project looks and holds up. Our collection runs from large-format Mega-Arbel and Lafitt slabs to Old World Paver and Dublin Cobble, plus permeable options such as Aqua-Bric and Turfstone that let rain soak back into the ground. One paver rarely suits every job, so we match thickness, texture, and color to the use, whether that is a patio, a pool deck, a walkway, or a driveway. Each page covers what the product has to survive, from foot traffic and furniture to vehicles and freeze-thaw cycles. Explore the three paver applications below and see which collection fits your project.
Patio Pavers
Picking a patio paver is part design, part arithmetic. Small pieces can look busy across a large patio, while larger formats calm it down. Thickness often depends on the height you have below your door threshold, and color is personal, so we send samples home to test in your own light. Patio pavers are colorfast and resist slipping, de-icing salt, and chlorine. Learn how size, thickness, and color work together.
Walkway Pavers
A walkway is the first thing guests touch, so it should feel solid and look intentional. Walkway pavers resist the cracking that plagues poured concrete, drain well, and can be swapped individually if one is damaged. We design the path around your home’s style, from classic brick and natural stone to modern concrete, and grade it for drainage. See which style welcomes your visitors.
Driveway Pavers
A driveway paver has to do what a patio paver never will: carry vehicles. Concrete driveway pavers rated at a minimum of 8,000 PSI are roughly three to four times stronger than poured concrete. Properly installed, they carry a design life of 40 years or more, and a damaged paver can be replaced without leaving a patch. Borders, inlays, and circle patterns add custom detail.
Retaining Walls
A retaining wall has two jobs: hold the hill back and look good doing it. The block you choose handles the second part. BelAir Wall offers a classic chiseled face. Weston Stone has a tumbled, weathered look suited to cottage-style gardens. Celtik Wall mimics natural stone and builds clean curves. Diamond 9D is the engineered choice for taller, more demanding slopes, and Century Wall brings smooth, contemporary lines. We also carry Stonegate, Country Manor, and Anglia Edger. Eastman helps with layout, design, and material selection so the wall fits your slope and your landscape. Compare the lines below, then tell us about your slope, your yard, and the look you want.
Block Retaining Wall
Retaining wall blocks range from small 20-pound units to blocks weighing up to 3,000 pounds, and the size, texture, and height of your wall decide which one belongs in your yard. We use segmental block, which builds straight or curved and works for anything from a planter bed to a tall wall with a building on top. Above three feet, most municipalities require an engineered design, and a sound wall always includes a footer, buried courses, drainage, geogrid, and caps. We lay out the wall, set the base, and handle drainage so it keeps working long after the last cap is placed. See how block walls level yards, terrace slopes, and add seating.
Hardscaping
Hardscaping is everything in your yard that is not alive: the patio, walls, walkways, driveway, fire features, and the structures that tie them together. Done as separate jobs, these pieces often fight each other over drainage, grade, and style. Done as one plan, they read as a single, deliberate landscape. Eastman Hardscape Construction handles the whole range under one roof, from first sketch to final cleanup, and has done so for more than four decades in Middle Tennessee. Walls retain, pavers drain, and steps connect levels, so each decision touches the next. Start with the planning stage, where drainage, soil, and materials get decided, or jump to how the build itself unfolds.
Hardscape Design
Good design happens before anyone breaks ground. We plan around drainage patterns, soil conditions, existing plantings, and how you intend to use the space, then specify materials for performance and appearance. 3D visualization lets you see the patio, wall, or driveway before construction starts, so changes are easy to make. We design for homes and businesses. See what the design stage covers.
Hardscape Installation
Hardscapes fail where you cannot see them: the base. Our installation crews prepare foundations, build in drainage, and align every course with Tennessee’s soil and seasonal swings in mind. We build retaining walls, patios, driveways, walkways, fire features, and water features in stone, concrete, pavers, and brick, a craft this family has practiced since 1978. See what a careful installation looks like.
Driveways
Your driveway is the first thing everyone sees and the last thing most people plan carefully. Concrete and brick are the two materials we install most, and they suit different homes. Concrete offers smooth, stamped, colored, or exposed aggregate finishes at a practical price. Brick brings Old World character and individual units you can repair without tearing out the whole drive. Both hold up to Tennessee’s freeze-thaw winters and summer heat when the base is built right, and a driveway on a weak base fails no matter how good the surface looks. We handle residential and commercial driveways, including removing failed asphalt or concrete. Explore each material, then check the cost page to plan your budget.
Concrete Driveways
Concrete is the practical choice that does not have to look practical. Stamped patterns can imitate stone, brick, or tile, colored mixes match your siding, and exposed aggregate adds grip and texture. We handle excavation, base, forming, reinforcement, pouring, finishing, and sealing, with slopes set for drainage. If your drive is cracked or dated, we remove and rebuild it. See the finishes available.
Brick Driveways
A brick driveway is a long-term bet on character. We start with soil and drainage checks, choose brick that complements your home’s exterior, and compact each layer so the surface stays tight. The permeable surface lets rain soak in, the texture grips in wet weather, and damaged bricks can be replaced individually. We install them for homes and commercial properties. See what a brick entrance can do.
Driveway Cost
What does a paver driveway really cost? It depends on two things. The pavers themselves range from about $1.80 per square foot for a basic concrete Holland stone to around $17 for a premium Unilock Belpasso. Installed, most paver driveways run $7 to $22 per square foot, driven by lot elevation, machine access, base depth, and pattern complexity. Read what moves the price and the questions that shape your quote.
Paver Catalogs
Before you pick a paver, look at a lot of them. This page collects Unilock catalogs and product resource guides, and points you toward the Belgard range, so you can browse colors, textures, and project photography at your own pace. Beyond the pictures, the guides list paver dimensions, thicknesses, installation guidelines, and warranty coverage, which helps you match a material to both your style and its use, whether that is a patio, walkway, driveway, or pool deck. Bring your favorites to your consultation and we will show you how they work in real projects. Skim the full range first, then narrow it by project type. Download a guide and start a shortlist.
Industry Links
The products and organizations behind a project are worth knowing before you hire anyone. This page gathers links to manufacturers and industry groups we rely on: Unilock and Belgard for pavers and walls, Oldcastle and Adams Products for masonry, Centurion Stone for stone veneer, and the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute for paver industry standards. For outdoor kitchens and fire features, you will also find American Outdoor Grill, Fire Magic, American Fyre Designs, and Real Fyre. Read the specs, compare warranties, then call us with any questions you have. Informed homeowners ask sharper questions, and sharper questions lead to better projects. If a link raises one, bring it to your consultation.
